About 'Selket'

This is an oil painting I did when I was 18 years old. It was my second oil painting. The first was of King Tut's death mask.

I was inspired to paint her and the death mask after attending the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's 1978 exhibit on King Tut..

Selket was the goddess of magic. She guarded one of the four gates of the Underworld. This statue and those of three other golden goddesses were found in the tomb of King Tut.

 1978
16" x 20" oil on stretched canvas, by Valerie Vinson (last name was Hooper at that time)
